there's a war inside of me*

Photobucket
Hey all. Soo I didn't realize these pants were a little wrinkled until I started editing the photos but eh. I was going for a casual look anyway :p hence the tee. Speaking of which, I have had this tee forever. I stole it from my dad when I was like 14 and never gave it back. I think it's probably a really old t-shirt, but it is so comfy and perfectly worn in. I can't believe it even used to fit my dad! I'm glad he doesn't read this, ahah he might be offended by that comment. In any case, I used to wear this tee snow-mobiling (surprise?) and recently I've just been wearing it around the house but I thought I would pull it out for this look.

This is a pretty unusual outfit for me. I don't really ever wear pants. I often have this inner dialogue in which I challenge myself to wear something different and outside of my comfort zone but more often than not I fall back on old favourites. As I have mentioned before, I love thrifting and so I have a pretty big wardrobe but not enough of it gets put to use. That is part of the reason why I like blogging, it really pushes me to be experimental and really touch upon all the corners of my closet! Anyway, this outfit is partly menswear inspired, and it has a really 1970's vibe to it I think probably largely due to the wideleg pants.

damn you charlie brown

Allo peoples. Today was absolutely gorgeous so my friend and I (Adrienne, who has the photocred today) went for a walk and took some pictures. We walked through the back alleyways in my neighbourhood and ended up at my old elementary school.

My outfit was a little crazy today. I have had this Charlie Brown shirt for what seems like eons. I think it's hilarious. I bought the blazer in the winter and really had been waiting for Spring to wear it - today was it's offical debut. Yatta! I am so glad it's officially Friday, I need some serious relaxing this weekend and a thrift shopping adventure seems to be in the works for Sunday. So good! Anyway lovelies, I need to hit the hay something fierce.

:) talk soon!

ballad of big nothing

As promised I have an outfit post today. I decided to include absolutely no green in my outfit. I don't understand St. Patricks day. So anyway, I wore red and pulled out my jean jacket! It is so absolutely gorgeous today. Probably the nicest day we've had yet. It's so sunny that I had a hard time getting shots that weren't over-exposed, didn't help that I took the pics in the middle of the day I'm sure. Anyway, gonna keep it short today because I have class. Also gonna stop by h&m and see if they still have those polkadot tights! Talk soon ladies.

lazy and lust

Photobucket
O hai! Soo I was pretty lazy with my outfit today. I just threw on a tee, jeans and a cardi. Dale and I took some pictures but I just felt shlubby. I had a shlub-day. I'm okay with that. Shlubby is totally fine with me now and again. shlub shlub. Did I make that word up? Anywhoozles, we did get some full outfit shots - I might throw them up to flickr/chictopia tomorrow. I don't know though, Dale took some good pictures it's just I'm not feeling the outfit. Often times when I wear jeans I don't feel like "me". I think I'll probably need to further explore exactly why this is the case in the future, because I am not totally sure at this moment. Do any of you have similar feelings towards certain types of clothing, where you just don't feel like "yourself" in them? I used to feel that way with dresses and skirts back in the day I think, go figure.

In any case, I want to show you guys some etsy finds that I have been lusting over lately:
Anyway, any of these purchases would put a noticeable dent in my funds so lusting over them is all I shall do! Seriously though I am going to need some brown/cognac flat oxfords for this summer and some "professor" shorts may be in order too.

Hopefully tomorrow I will have a proper outfit post! Seeyou guys then.

xx Robyn :)

rainy day crushed velvet

It is soo crap-tacular out. It has been for the past 3 days. It hasn't actually rained much today but yesterday and the day before it would not let up! April showers have come a month early this year. Fortunately I got outside today to take some pictures while it was not raining.

My mom bought me this little black crushed velvet dress a year or two ago from a thrift store. Judging by the tag and the style I am pretty sure it is from the early 90's. My mom thinks that it's older, I'm not so sure though. In any case, when she first brought it home I loved it and wore it a bunch but since then I haven't worn it at all. I suppose I forgot about the poor thing, tucked away with all the other black dresses in my closet. Well, I brought it out today to see some light, too bad there wasn't much light to be seen with it being so damp and dreary.

I am in serious need of a thrifting adventure soon. I haven't been for a good month and I'm starting to itch, it's pretty ridiculous. During the summer and when my thrifting buddies are around I probably go thrifting at least once a week, and up to three times. I justify it with the knowdedge that I don't do much "new clothes" shopping. I am always in the stores looking at stuff and window shopping because I go to school right beside a huge shopping centre but I only ever buy one or two things here and there. Also, I think thrifting that much is okay because, you know, it's just "thrift shopping" and I never buy any one thing for more than around 15 bucks. It can add up though!

What do you guys think? How much is too much and how often do you go thrifting/"new clothes" shopping?

four ways! brush stroke skirt

I have always loved it when bloggers do remixes so I did one of my own. I just got this skirt over the weekend and was excited about styling it so I thought I ought to try multiple looks. I styled all of the outfits with transitional weather in mind.

The first look is just really fun and but also comfy, I could see myself wearing this to school just as much as I could see wearing it to a party.

Second look is a bit pattern crazy but I think it still works. I had the most fun styling this one.

This look is something I would wear in late spring, maybe when my legs are a little less crazy white? :p Who am I kidding, that will never happen.

Photobucket
boots, cardigan, tank - thrifted//tights - h&m//belt- vintage//bangles - moms collection

I piled on the bangles, threw on a cardigan and belted it for this look. I love this belt, I have had it probably since I was about 12 yet still find occasion to wear it.

I think my favourite is number 1, it's what I chose to wear as my actual outfit for today. What's your fave?

see the lonely boy out on the weekend

Hey party people. How's it going? Yesterday we took a walk to one of the cemeteries near Dale's house. It's a very old cemetery, I think the newest grave is from about 50 years ago but most of them are older than that. I am rather fond of walking around in there but we haven't had the chance all winter. Yesterday was so nice though so we took advantage of the sun and double digit temps. Yay for spring-like weather!

"Think I'll pack it in and buy a pick up. Take it down to LA. Find a place to call my own and try to fix up. Start a brand new day." Out on the Weekend.

In my opinion, these photos just feel like Neil Young's album Harvest. One of my favourite songs from that album is Out on the Weekend cause it just fills me with imagery of Neil in his pick-up driving south with his acoustic guitar thrown haphazardly in the back. It's actually kind of a funny image, now that I really think about it. It is odd that these photos remind me of Neil Young because that album has always reminded me of Fall (duh! right? Harvest!) In a lot of ways my outfit yesterday was more Fall-ish than Spring so that makes sense. Yesterday certainly smelled like Spring though. mmm! The transitional months are my favourite and that is probably in large part due to the fact that I love the fashion (read: layering w/o big winter jackets!) that come with them. Don't get me wrong, I love my collection of winter jackets but I just tire of them past March.

Photobucket
My friend has been in India since the beginning of February and I got a post card from her yesterday. I was so excited that I took a picture of it with one of the new rings I picked up over the weekend. In the post card she told me how totally nuts I would be going over all of the pretty textiles - so jealous! Miss you Persia.

Talk soon!

Slickwalk Streetstyle

Hay guys! The Clothes Horse just posted about this street style website from Moscow: Slickwalk. So I have been spending the better part of the afternoon going through all of the gorgeous photos! It is getting pretty warm here in Toronto (today was a whopping 9 degrees Celsius!) but I am still so into the warm winter looks. I love love the cape and the coats and the big tunnel scarves and the shoes - soo good! I am still looking forward to spring though - I bought some cute spring things today whilst shopping so hopefully those will make it on here soon!

this wheel's on fire

Hey people. I had to take pictures inside today because there was not enough time in the day to get the pictures in during daylight. Oh well - I don't think these turned out so bad, considering. I think they work with the outfit anyway. Plus, the lighting makes my hair look so red!
Photobucket
This was a last minute and hastily thrown on ensemble. I wasn't even going to take pictures of it but as I wore it I became more fond of it. I got this shirt for 5 bucks at Urban Outfitters during their end of summer sale. I love it when UO has sales because it is rare I can afford much from there. However, they have such good sales!
Photobucket

The skirt was also an awesome find I had over the summer. I was at a local sally-ann and not having much luck on that particular trip when I found this vintage levis skirt. I seem to find the best things while thrifting after having a few hours of little luck. Anyway, I picked it up and initially thought it would be too small. To mu surprise I slipped it on and it fit like a glove! It is a bit short to wear without tights though so I mainly just wear it in the winter. Anyway guys, I'm gonna keep it short tonight! Gonna finish flipping through the new Teen Vogue before I hit the hay. Speaking of which I totally loved this editorial in the march issue!

Til next time,

Robyn :)

The Dog Days Are Over*

Hellos! It'sa me. I'm wearing some of my favourite colours today. Forest green and burnt orange, I especially love them paired together! I just wish I had more of these colours in my closet. I wore this to class this morning and then out running errands and doing some shopping downtown.

*My current soundtrack consists of nothing other than Florence and the Machine for the past few days. It's a little ridiculous but I am obsessed. There is just something about her music and the way it feels, it speaks to me in a way that most music cannot. It's a really inspiring and yet deeply depressing feeling. Words fail me in explaining it beyond that. In any case, you should give it a listen especially RIYL strong female vocalists and moody instrumentals.

Tardis Accident

Hai guys! Hows it goin'? SO I like me a good TV show and some of the best TV shows are sci fi shows as far as I am concerned. Firefly, Farscape, and Battlestar Galactica are some of my favourites but my all time fave space sci fi to date is Doctor Who! The shirt I am wearing today is a tribute to two of the coolest time machines in sci fi history :p. The Doc's DeLorean from Back to the Future and the Doctor's Tardis from Doctor Who - and they're crashing into one another! How cool is that?
Photobucket

I'm not sure what it is but a good TV show really does it for me, moreso than a good movie. I think I just like the fact that you have so much more time to tell a full story with a serialized TV series and I love that. I love being able to connect with the characters and watch them grow or deteriorate, whatever the case may be. In any case, you should check out the new Doctor Who series because it is definetely worth your time! It's a BBC series that has been deemed the longest running sci fi television show in the world. I'm only really acquainted with the new series that started in 2005, but I have loved every moment of it. Most shows can make me laugh and cry on different occasions but this is the only show I have ever watched that has made me laugh and cry at the same time.

I know there are some people reading this blog, so I wanna know what some of your favourite shows are. I'm always in the market for a good show! I learned about two of my fave dramas (Mad Men and Skins) from reading blogs and I'm thirsty for more.

Anyway, about my outfit: for everyday I often like to pair a tee with a skirt but I haven't been able to do that a lot lately because I have this weird thing about not liking to wear t shirts under sweaters and cardigans and it has been too cold to not wear a cardigan. I just don't enjoy seeing the line of the t shirt sleeve through the cardigan. I still do it sometimes because I have some tee's I just have to wear, like this one!
