It is getting quite chilly around these parts lately. I have had to pull out some of my winter coats. I guess I have become a bit of a winter coat collector - I have three that are generally in pretty heavy rotation and another three that I save for particular occasions. Those are just the ones in my personal collection, nevermind the ones I have for sale in the shop right now! I'm excited to take more wintery photos complete with outerwear in the future. I'll also be doing outfit photos without the outerwear too, of course!

For the fellow fash bloggers in colder climates, will you guys be photographing your outerwear this winter?

Happy Monday!

It's My Party

It was my Birthday this past Tuesday and I turned 23 though I keep thinking that I am still 22. It will take some time to settle into my new age :p. I'm hoping 23 will be a good year, full of lots of new things to experience!

Typically I'm not super into my Birthday but this year I felt like getting dressed up and actually doing an activity other than just going out to a bar with my friends. On Friday we celebrated with dinner and bowling. Dale and I were joined by my cousin and Dad as well as some of my friends and we bowled our fingers off. It was a fun night filled with gutter balls and Diana camera pictures (hopefully they will make an appearance here soon!). I wore this green dress for the evening because I thought the little bows printed all over were quite appropriate. I'm glad I saved it for my Birthday!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you people south of the border! It's just a regular 'ole Thursday here in Canada except without my regularly scheduled programming. That means no Fringe tonight - dangit. Anyway I just spent the day helping my aunt with computer woes and thrift shopping. I just got home from the gym and now I have to think about something to make for dinner. Oh how I would have enjoyed a Turkey dinner tonight :p alas, we had our Turkey day a month and a half ago! At least we get Black Friday sales now - not that I'll be participating :p

I was pretty in love with the outfit today, I'm liking the whole scholarly feel of it. Not-so-crazy about the hair haha! Ungh - rain just makes it poof up like crazy. To go with the theme today (though I have done exactly no amount of actual school work) I bought a kilt while out thrifting! I have always wanted to style up a kilt in a different way from how I had to wear one while in High School but could never find one that I liked. Anyway, the one I found is perfect - you'll see what I mean soon enough.

Talk soon lovelies!

Diana Camera!

True story - I was totally spoiled today. Well, truth is - I have an amazing and attentive boyfriend who knew exactly what I wanted for my birthday :p a Diana Camera! Plus he got me like a bajillion accessories for it including a whack of lenses and a 35mm back. I am soo excited to start taking photos with it. I've spent a good portion of the night setting it up. I have the 35mm back on, now I just have to pretty much learn how to use the camera - haha! Luckily it came with a bunch of literature and I've already found some awesome youtube tutorials. I am so totally making a little string trigger for it so I can do some outfit photos with it.

I know this post is kind of meta, taking pictures of my new camera and all. I'm just too excited and the camera is so pretty so I wanted to document it!

Alright guys that's it for this very late hour. I hope you all had an awesome Tuesday and a stellar hump day ahead.

I wore the cape that I have been gushing over the past few days today. It was pretty disgusting out in the way that it has been raining but on the plus side it was pretty mild. All I wore out was this top with the cape over and I was even a little hot. I love this cape despite the fact that it is a little crazy. I feel a little witchy in this outfit and my absolutely crazy hair (thanks rain) is totally playing that up.

These shoes are my new favourite thing. I had been looking for a pair of shoes like these since the spring. They are also incredibly comfy. They showed up on my doorstep this morning and I immediately styled them up for the day. What an awesome day-before-my-Birthday present!

Anyway, off to the gym and then back to studying. Joy! :p

A Day in the Life

I thought it would be neat to do a "photo an hour" post today to switch it up from my usual outfit photos. I have been wanting to do this for awhile now but I always forget to start taking the photos in the morning. I told Dale about my troubles and he suggested that I put my camera on my bedside table so that I would remember in the morning. His plan obviously worked because here I am with the post! He was also instrumental in reminding me to take photos every hour. :p So without further ado, one picture for every hour of a pretty regular weekend day:

Flattery Will Get You as Far as the Bus Stop

outfit deets: boots - vintage // socks - American Apparel // tights - H&M // shorts - vintage // turtleneck - H&M // accessories - vintage

So I've said this before when I wore these shorts the first time here, but I don't think they are really doing me any favours in the figure department and yet somehow I still love them. I've lost some inches since the last time I wore them so I feel like they look better now than they did in the summer but the pleats on the waist work to make a silhouette that I'm not used to wearing. In any case, I am still pretty in love with the feel of this outfit. Grandma meets 1950's housewife on the weekend meets jockey? haha!

Yesterday I went thrift shopping for the first time in too long! School has overwhelmed me a little this semester so I have had no time for it, plus all my thrifting buddies are gone - so it just hasn't happend for me pretty well since I started school again in September. Probably a record. Anyway, I went yesterday and walked away with a new polo tee, a gorgeous floaty green dress, the most amazing cape and a comfy cozy oversized cardi! What a haul. The green dress has even pushed another dress out of the running to be one of my Birthday dresses! :) Now I just gotta make sure I get it cleaned before Tuesday.

Alright guys, back to studying physics on a Friday night (I know you're jealous).

On Repeat: Girl Talk

Alright so usually the point of On Repeat is to showcase a song and video that I really like but this week I am just so totally into Girl Talk and his new album All Day that I had to make a post about it. Due to the the nature of what he does I don't think he exactly has any music videos. For the uninformed, Girl Talk is a DJ who is known for his impeccable ability to make a mashup that will have you smiling the whole way through. He mixes the most unexpected songs in a way that makes them seem like they should have always been together.

I had a really hard time picking just one track but I settled on one that features mashups between Radiohead and ODB as well as Iggy Pop and the Beastie Boys among many others. The whole album is really worth a listen and best of all it's free to download from his labels website!

Have a listen and let me know what you think :)

I'll be back soon with an outfit post, promise. I had such a successful thrifting adventure today I must tell you all about it!

I went a little nuts with the photo editing today. I won't be doing this all of the time but I thought the really faded look worked well for the photos today. Speaking of photos and photography - has anyone seen the new Olympus Pen? I am kind of in love with the idea of that camera at the moment. I say I am in love with the idea of it because I haven't held it or looked into it in too much depth yet. Also, pardon the bad framing in these photos - I didn't even notice until I uploaded them to my computer that my head was cut off. Good job me!

I wore this in the morning for school but right now I'm sitting here in my gym clothes because that is where I am headed momentarily. Originally I was wearing a grey sweater with the skirt and tights but I felt a little too dull and drab so I decided to throw on some colour in the form of this top and cardigan. I threw it together pretty fast but I still enjoyed the results. The top is actually a dress that shrunk in the wash despite my best efforts to keep it from doing so. Oh well, I will wear the thing whichever way it allows me to because I love the print so much!

talk soon lovelies!

The Guns Will be Silent

In Canada it's Rememberance Day today. For those of you who don't know, Rememberance day is a memorial day observed to remember the lives lost in war. It's a one of those holidays where you don't actually get the day off from school or work so Rememberance Day always reminds me of the ceremonies they would have in school. The thing I remember most is they would always play this one Bryan Adams song. After 10 or 11 years of hearing the same song with the same little accompanying video my friends and I started to find it a little absurd and couldn't stay serious through the song. I kind of like the song now though.

I think it's really important to have days like Rememberance Day. Without special occasions to remember the past it is too easy to forget. Over and over again we see history repeating itself and I like to think that Rememberance Day not only serves the purpose of honouring our veterans but also works to remind people that no one should have to go what the soldiers went through. It's extremely unfortunate that they had to fight for our 'freedom'. 'Freedom' as we experience or perceive is not something that should have to be fought for.

I took the day as a chance to dress with a bit of a military theme in mind like the total nerd that I am. Hence the army green cardi and beret. I'm slightly jealous of Americans and the fact that they don't have Thanksgiving until November 25 because it's kind of an excuse to carry the Autumny theme into November. For me, I feel like I have to get into Winter mode after Halloween. Of course, this is me just being way too anal and silly and I still dress with an Autumn theme in mind until snow hits the ground but I'm still jealous of that late Thanksgiving :p

Thanks for reading guys! You're the best.
