In Canada it's Rememberance Day today. For those of you who don't know, Rememberance day is a memorial day observed to remember the lives lost in war. It's a one of those holidays where you don't actually get the day off from school or work so Rememberance Day always reminds me of the ceremonies they would have in school. The thing I remember most is they would always play this one Bryan Adams song. After 10 or 11 years of hearing the same song with the same little accompanying video my friends and I started to find it a little absurd and couldn't stay serious through the song. I kind of like the song now though.
I think it's really important to have days like Rememberance Day. Without special occasions to remember the past it is too easy to forget. Over and over again we see history repeating itself and I like to think that Rememberance Day not only serves the purpose of honouring our veterans but also works to remind people that no one should have to go what the soldiers went through. It's extremely unfortunate that they had to fight for our 'freedom'. 'Freedom' as we experience or perceive is not something that should have to be fought for.
I took the day as a chance to dress with a bit of a military theme in mind like the total nerd that I am. Hence the army green cardi and beret. I'm slightly jealous of Americans and the fact that they don't have Thanksgiving until November 25 because it's kind of an excuse to carry the Autumny theme into November. For me, I feel like I have to get into Winter mode after Halloween. Of course, this is me just being way too anal and silly and I still dress with an Autumn theme in mind until snow hits the ground but I'm still jealous of that late Thanksgiving :p
Thanks for reading guys! You're the best.
