outfit deets: shoes - modcloth // jeans - gap // top - Forever 21 // jewellery - vintage

Hey guys! I haven't been around as much because my grandmother is pretty sick in the hospital. She's my main focus lately so I haven't really been thinking about taking outfit photos. Dale helped me out a couple days ago and took these for me though. It's just a pretty plain lazy day outfit. It was extremely comfy, though probably not the most flattering thing I have ever worn. I wish I had thought to get more pictures that show the full extent of the sweater though because it has some cool batwing sleeves.

After a hospital visit yesterday my cousin and I did some serious shopping and I finally found the perfect straight black jeans and a great army green cardigan. I'm wearing both of them today! Do you guys ever go shopping to avoid laundry? Or sew something? I do that a little bit too much and I know it's wrong because I really should wash before I wear. Ugh.

Alright guys well I hope you are all doing well and feeling great and excited about the weekend!

Talk soon!

what Babs wore, round four

Photobucket
what Babs wore: lace skirt, eagle tee, leopard print cardigan, and scarf all from Bicyclette Boutique

Babs got all decked out for the Clothing Show in Toronto this past weekend. How great does she look? I love everything about her outfit. She did a pretty good job of working it because her outfit was a hit! Everybody wanted her leopard print cardi!

I forgot to bring my camera so I didn't get any photos of her. Luckily Paige snapped this one while she was dressing Babs before the show.

I was there with Babs on the Friday and it was so much fun. It was smaller than it was last Fall but I had a good time helping Paige out and I even scored some goodies of my own!

Anyway guys I hope to have an outfit post soon! I'm still feeling a little sickly, school is getting busy, I'm addicted to Starcraft and my Nan is back in the hospital. Life's a little crazy.

How's life with you guys?

Talk soon!

outfit deets: shoes - modcloth doctorate degree flat // dress- F21 // jacket - thrifted

I'm back! I've been pretty sick the past few days so I have barely been out of bed. I'm finally starting to feel better so I went out today to do some shipping! I threw on this dress that I bought from Forever 21 over the weekend. It's the perfect example of a fall floral print. Instant love! I love it paired with my old stand-by cropped military jacket. I'm on the lookout for a longer length/mid-warmth olive green military jacket for the cooler Fall days. Preferably something with just a little fur. Have any suggestions?

Tomorrow I am going to be at the Toronto Clothing Show helping out Paige of Bicyclette Boutique at her booth! I wanted to lend her a hand because she's a fellow summer company student, I love her boutique and I love the Clothing Show! I thought it would be great to be part of it even if Rhitbee Anne Vintage isn't big enough to be there!...maybe one day.

Anyway guys I'm off to relax for the rest of the night. My cold is still lingering and I have a very long day ahead of me tomorrow. Time to watch Fringe and play a little Starcraft :p

Talk soon guys,

it's Thursday and it's raining

outfit deets: boots - vintage // leggings - h&m // tee - h&m // cardigan - winners // scarf - gift // umbrella - dollar store

Oh rainy day outfits! I have a hard time with rainy days because I am very rarely drawn to water proof materials. My favourite materials tend to be the ones that just soak up water like a sponge. Not super into the PVC or plastic when it comes to clothing. I suppose for pragmatic reasons I should invest in a waterproof type coat. I just need to find one I actually like! ...Or maybe I should just buy a crazy big bubble umbrella.

I just opted for a tee and leggings because quite honestly the rain wasn't doing much in the way of inspiring me. drats.

What are some of your rainy day essentials?

Photobucket
Kay I realize the umbrella is clashing a little but I had no other option. I have this bad habit of losing umbrellas all over the place!

Here's hoping for blue skies tomorrow!

on repeat: the movielife

"if my mind's the weapon, my heart's the extra clip"

The Movielife- Jamestown from 40 Hour Train back to Penn

This week's on repeat involves a little bit of a flashback. OK - it's actually a pretty huge flashback. In High School I was pretty into punk rock/pop punk - I dunno, whatever the heck you want to call it (ex. Alkaline Trio, Finch, The Used, New Found Glory, Autopilot Off...to name a few.) My hands down favourite band was The Movielife, though. It's funny because if you were to ask me now what my favourite band was I would be hard-pressed to answer you. I could probably manage a top 10, but to name a favourite? Not happening. It wasn't a hard question for me for the better part of my adolescence though. Movielife all the way.

I can't remember how many times I saw The Movielife live, but I remember the first time I saw them. It was December 13, 2002. I had just turned 16! I went with my friend Persia and we waited outside the venue (the now dead and gone Kathedral) cause that's what we were used to doing. The opening act was Closet Monster (it was the first time I saw this band too but later on I went to see them again about 20 plus times). I was wearing my favourite shirt - which was this black polo shirt with a white stripe across the front and a white and red collar and my FAVOURITE pants - these hugely wide carpenter jeans and probably my grey Vans. Yeiz. Also, please note the glasses! Shortly after this I religiously switched to contacts for the next 6 years to come. It was only a few months ago I tried glasses again!

Despite my extremely dorky appearance the photo below is still one of my very favourites. Vinnie (the lead singer of the Movielife) always did this thing where he would stick the microphone into the crowd and let the crowd or a particular person in the crowd sing. Jordan from New Found Glory did this a lot too. It was always pretty hilarious because most of the time the people singing along were terrible, I'm sure I was terrible too but whatever. I still remember what lyrics I sang in to the mic... "this time next year I'll be listening". Amazingly, David from all fall down caught the moment on camera!

Photobucket

Alright I should probably stop dorking it up now before I embarrass myself too much. What are some of your favourite bands from years past?

xo Robyn

p.s. The Movielife is still totally in my top ten

Hey people! It's been -oh my gosh- an entire week since I did a proper outfit post. I had my first week of school and I'm just settling in and getting the hang of it again. I am taking this Science Fiction literature class and I have already fallen in love with it. We spent the better part of the class last class talking about Battlestar Galactica. Yes, please. The first project to be tackled for that class is a readthrough of H.G. Wells' The Time Machine. I cannot believe I had never read that book! It's pretty great and clearly so important in the way that it has influenced Sci Fi as it exists now.

Anyway, I'm also taking some philosophy classes, a music in film class and a physics class. If you're in school - what are you taking and how are you liking your classes so far? If you're not in school but you were at school at some point - what were some of your favourite classes? :p I'm a nerd and I love to hear about the classes other schools offer.

One thing I've noticed while being back at school is how fashion forward the general population of my school is! Not many people dress down for class where I am. I've noticed this on a certain level before, but this year people are really kicking it up a notch. I'm finding inspiration around every corner! Literally.

I picked up this dress from Forever21 a little while ago and I love the pattern on it. Unfortunately, when I found it it was the only one left and it's a small so it fits a little short on me but I just wear it as a tunic or with a skirt underneath like I did today. I'm pretty excited about it, so many potential remixes in mind!

Alright guys, I'm off to play video games - err, I mean read.

what Babs wore, round three

what Babs wore: skirt - soon to be added to the shop // top - Bicyclette Boutique // belt - vintage

Hey party people! I've put together another round of what Babs wore. This particular addition is a little more on the dark side than what I would have hoped for but either way - these are some of my very favourite new pieces. The top you guys have already seen in this post and the gorgeous little skirt will be in the shop shortly. I'm pretty in love with this outift and I wish the skirt was a tad bigger so I could wear this. Alas, the outfit was destined to be donned by Babs. Throw on a green military inspired blazer or jacket over this and you've got one great fall outfit!

Talk soon guys, I'm off for a day of rearranging and Ikea shopping, I think!

bright lights

outfit deets: dress- SWS // cardigan - thrifted // scarf - vintage

This is a little bit of a bumming around outfit. I wore it to run some errands, go to the hair salon and around the house while I was working on a shop update. I was trying to get the lighting right inside my cloffice and it looked alright for these shots but as soon as I introduced some black velvet it was no longer the best of lighting set-ups! Oh well, back to the drawing board tomorrow.

This is my new favourite scarf. It has a little bit of weight to it so it will take me into fall quite nicely. I just love the colours - I am planning another outfit around it tomorrow. Alright guys well this is just a quickie post. I have a long day at school ahead of me!

Speaking of school though, I want to know - are you guys in school? What are you studying and how do you balance between blogging and school work? Let me know in the comments!

Happy Friday!!

on repeat: First Aid Kit

"...and it's one life and it's this life and it's beautiful..."

This weeks on repeat features a indie/folk duo I just recently discovered. They are First Aid Kit out of Sweden and the song in the video is called "Hard Believer" off of their 2010 album Big Black and the Blue. The line quoted above from the song struck me hard and deep - especially today. Their whole album is just beautiful - their voices are so unique yet they meld so perfectly together. These sisters are going to be on my playlist for months and months to come!

Seriously give this song a listen! It's worth your time and the music video is really interesting.

They are coming here in October - now I just have to turn one of my friends on to them so I have someone to go with!

Hope you are all having happy hump days :)

creamy lace and cold legs

outfit deets: shoes - UO // skirt - Joe // top - Bicyclette Boutique // jacket - thrifted // necklace /bangle - vintage

It's been so cold for the past couple of days! It was almost too cold to not wear tights - in my stubbornness I braved the bare legs though. I am looking forward to Fall but I also don't want to see the warm weather go. I love Fall - but I hate that it is a prelude to winter. Winter is only fun until January 1.

Since I got this top from Paige of Bicyclette Boutique it's been a struggle not to wear it everyday! I love it so much. I want to wear it with everything - it looks perfect tucked into all my skirts and I kind of can't wait to try it over some jeans. I love lace, and with the purchase of this beauty ends my search for the perfect lace top!

I had a romcom night with my friend last night and we saw Going the Distance. Let my qualify this, I can't resist Drew Barrymore and the soundtrack was pretty hilarious. Whatever! It was a good movie. To the point though, I have been contemplating cutting my hair because I haven't in over a year and it's not growing anymore and I am in denial about the fact that it will just not GROW LONGER. I may or may not have a little bit of a split end issue and I think I might want to cut my hair like Drew had it in the movie . I also really don't want to cut my hair off though. Realistically though that's only like 3-4 inches shorter and my hair could probably use it. Thoughts about the cut? It's not the greatest picture of the cut in all it's glory but you can get the basic idea from the picture.

Anyway, oi - back to school for me tomorrow :( It's all so bittersweet.

Talk soon guys,

xx Robyn

p.s. I went shopping today and got some really great things for the shop - keep your eyes peeled for an update.

on repeat: Neko Case

Today sees this week's "on repeat". Tomorrow will see a new daily outfit post - but for today - here is Neko Case's music video for Maybe Sparrow from her 2006 album Fox Confessor Brings the Flood. The illustration in this video is just gorgeous. I aspire to one day be able to draw like this. I wish I was capable of learning multiple things all at once. Right now my main creative focus and outlet is fashion and my shop and this blog. Once I get more into the groove of this blogging thing - I hope to take up different kinds of art more seriously. I have been fooling around with pixel art a bit lately which is so much fun - but I'd also like to go deeper than that and learn how to draw properly. I hope for some art classes in my future.

I love Neko Case - no matter what mood I am in I can listen to any of her albums. I have always loved folk music and these past few years I have been sort of really drawn country-style music. To me, Neko Case is the perfect combination of both.

This song reminds me of my mom. She is a "bird nerd" (Erin, I don't take credit for this slogan) and is always playing on team bird. She chases the cats away from the backyard and litters the entire vicinity of our house and cottage with sunflower seeds. She takes brilliant photos of birds, pictured below is a photo she took of a sparrow in our backyard.

Personally, I love her chipmunk photos best...

Have a happy Thursday!
